Butterfly Easel Card

Hi everyone. I teach Paper Crafting and Card making at a local Joann's fabric here in Phoenix. Many that attend the classes are new card makers. Many new crafter's don't have all the tools or know some of the many techniques we have gathered and learned through the years.

I decided that Easel cards would be fun to create and are not too difficult. I was putting together my sample cards and I wanted to share with you one of them that I was really pleased with.

The die cut set I used is from Spellbinder and is called Wings of Hope. I have used the smaller butterfly on past cards, but had never used the bigger one. Well, I found a way to use it by just playing around.

I first cut the large butterfly, pushing the die cut up off the top of the crease so that I would have two that were connected.  I then scored the top layer (as you would do in an easel card and folded in half towards me.

Then I cut the smaller butterfly and attached it using my glue gun to the bottom half of the folded butterfly. This created the Easel butterfly. I then attached the bottom of the larger butterfly to a pink embossed base using 4 white brads, then attached that base to a 4"x 4" note card.

I embellished it with bling and it was done. I was so pleased with it that I made 3 more and am planning on making a matching card holder with my envelope punch. I think these will make cute little gifts.

Isn't it fun when you experiment?

Thanks for stopping by.

A card using utensils...

During one of my travels to Portland, I went to a Farmer's Market. One of the people walking around was wearing a shirt with this funny saying on it.

Of course I thought to myself...Hmmm, that would make a funny card. I wanted to get it made up in time for Valentine's Day..so I finally got around to creating it.

My intent is to make you laugh, so I hope that I don't offend! It definitely is not my typical type of cards that I create, but sometimes you just gotta try new things.

We'll see how it goes over. Thanks for stopping by!

Valentine for a friend

Hi everyone. Just wanted to pop in to share a card I made for a friend. She recently broke up with her  boyfriend so I wanted to make sure she got a Valentine that would cheer her up.

While break ups are sometimes for the best, it still doesn't make them any easier, especially around Valentines day.

This is a pretty simple design, but a very classic Valentine's Day card

The inside is not your typical Valentine Greeting, but I thought it would make her smile. I hope she likes it! Hope I made you smile.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sunday night blues...

Popping in to share my 2nd Christmas card of 2015. At this rate, I will not have enough..so I better get a move on.  I decided that I would color 2 of every Christmas digi I use this card, that way I can make two cards...that are just a bit different.

Now my post is titled Sunday night blues...as I am starting to think about work tomorrow. These weekends go too darn fast. But we still have a Sunday roast in the oven for dinner, so I am certainly looking forward to that.

this cute little elf is from Limited Runs. They are our current sponsor over at 12 MoC Link up. If you have not linked up any cards this month, you still have a few more days. I have been into steampunk recently, so I thought this would be a fun little take on Santa's workshop.

I am  to head on over to link this to 12MoC link up. Hope to see you over there as well.

Hi Everyone! I am here today to share my cupcake box card today that I have featured over at So Suzy Stamps. This cupcake stamp and sentiment are from this months stamp release! Aren't they fun?

Sentiment: Beautiful Cupcake

I decided to make a pop up box card. Since I have learned this technique, I have made several of these fun little cards. You can POP up practically anything.

If you are interested in a tutorial, I have posted it over at So Suzy Stamps. Be sure to stop by and check it out.

Have fun and thanks for stopping by.

When I'm with you...

Ahhh...Happy Friday. We finally made it. Thought it would be fun to end the week with a fun Valentine card. I made this a few weeks ago with an image from Bugaboo. Love it as you can put any sentiment in the box to make any occasion cards.

The hearts made it perfect for a Valentine's Day card. Just love this sentiment. I am sure many of you out there can relate to it. It is another one from Ginger's House.

Hopefully you are all just about finished with your Valentines. I may have a few more up my sleeve, but for the most part am finished.

Thanks for stopping by.

A Portrait of a Mother

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a fantastic Wednesday. Hang in there, we are half way through the week.  I am here today to share with you a card I made to enter into one of my favorite challenges, A Vintage Journey. This is a fantastic challenge that hosts challenges for projects influenced by Tim Holtz.

If you know me, you know I just love his work and his creativity inspires me in many of my projects as well. The theme this week is to use a portrait in your project.  I had an ATC that I had created a few months back that I thought would be a perfect addition to a card, and guess what, it has a portrait!

The tag is a take on his January 12 tags of 2015. You can see my tag I entered by clicking here.

I used a lot of color on this card. Several distress paints and inks. I also used a stencil and added some paste for texture.

I thought the ATC worked well with not only the portrait, but the butterflies as well which complimented the big butterfly at the bottom. The portrait is an image from Created with TLC.

The ATC already had the word beautiful. I added another chit chat sticker which said 'mother' since I intend on this being a Mother's Day Card.

Items I used:

Grandma's Cookies

So it begins. Another challenge over at The Crafter's Cafe. Our theme this week is Sewing or Faux. My sewing machine is currently in the shop, so I had to go with Faux this time.

Theme: Sewing or Faux

I god this fun sentiment stamp last year and I find myself looking for images that it will work with. When I saw this fun grandma image over at Robin's Fetish, I had to have it. I decided to decorate my card as a quilt, I thought that would be fun with the Faux technique. I even added a little heart button.

I decorated the inside of my card as well. I have been doing that recently. It really makes a difference don't you think?

Here is a closer look at the image as well as the sentiment which is from So Suzy Stamps. It is brand new and the first time I have used it.

So get out that sewing machine or piercing tool and lets see what you can create. We would love to see it.

12 Tags of 2015 - January

So one of of my New Years Resolutions this year is to try and participate in Tim's monthly 12 Tags challenge. My challenge has always been not having enough supplies to be able to follow his techniques.

In 2014 I stocked up, so hopefully I will have enough items to play...for a few months at least, then I will probably have to go shopping again.

Here is a snap shot of some of the items I used.

This was a fun tag to make. I had most everything that Tim used to create his masterpiece. I typically don't like working with glitter, but I added some distressing powder and glitter to the '15', so hopefully you can see the details.

I am going to turn this into a graduation card, so I tried to use chit chat words that would represent senior year...

Here is a closer look. A lot of fun visuals to this card. I am happy the way it turned out..and it was my first try.

Let me know what you think and thanks for stopping by!

Don't be afraid to stand out and be UNIQUE!

It is time for the mid month inspiration from the design team over at Path of Positivity.

Theme: Uniqueness

When I saw this image from Scribbles by Design, I knew I would have fun with it. When I sat down to put my card together, I had to decide, which one of the Boys would "stand out." They are all so unique.

Many of the DT chose to use this image. You can see just within the team, how "unique" each of our talents are. We all have different styles. But hopefully that gives you readers lots of ideas and inspiration to play along.

This sentiment is by Dr. Seuss. Seemed perfect for this group shot.

The sponsors and prizes for this challenge are:
  • A prize package worth $10 of digi images (digital papers not applicable) from Scribbles Designs, one of our guest sponsors this month, for the post or project that the DT deems most inspiring of the bunch.
  • A $10 gift certificate from Ike's Art, one of our guest sponsors this month, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all entrants.
  • One digital image from Creative Bug Digital SnapShots for each person chosen as a DT Delight.
There will also be:
  • One digital designer paper (made to order in a couple different ways) from Décosse's Dynamite Doodles for one lucky voter who leaves a comment.
  • One digital sentiment for every single person who enters the challenge.

So, have I inspired you? We would love to see your unique talents!
